William Willard Ashe was a native of North Carolina; botanist, and forester with the North Carolina Geological Survey, 1892-1905, and the United States Forest Service, 1905-1932. The collection includes professional correspondence, chiefly 1898-1932, and other papers of William Willard Ashe, including correspondence with academic and government botanists and with members of the timber industry, concerning plant specimens, forestry techniques and products, and soil conservation and flood control. Personal and professional pictures, field notes, and drafts of Ashe's writings also appear.
